what to do with so much sand?
The home we moved into about a year ago has a very large area of sand (we're talking sandbox sand) on one side of the backyard. We've thought about getting rid of it, but it's A LOT of sand. About 30 ft. wide and 18 inches deep in the middle. So, we tried to work with it. We have kids, so we put a couple small play structures in it and it worked for a while.
You can see a simple drawing of my backyard here:
But now we are starting to have problems with neighborhood cats using it as a giant litter box. Disgusting! And because it's such a large area with a swingset in it, there's not way to cover it up when not in use. Also, I'm starting to tire of having sand tracked into the house and all over the patio.
So... I need a solution. If money were no object, I would have someone come in and remove the sand and replace it with soil and plant grass. But money is tight, unfortunately. I'm wondering if there might be a less expensive solution. I've even thought about covering up parts of it with red brick pavers, just out of desperation. I don't know... I need ideas!
