Strange Potato Thing...........

gltrap54May 31, 2012

I've never grown potatoes that failed to bloom, this year being the exception.... Plants (Irish Cobblers) don't have much size, but I've dug some just OK potatoes thus far. I'm guessing our 97 degree days in March could be the part of the problem.......

Isn't it way to early to be harvesting yours or are you just stealing a few new potatoes from the hills? Mine are still going strong down here and the vines won't even begin to die back for another 4 weeks.

Not blooming is actually a fairly common thing. A couple of posts further down the page about it.

I've grown three different kinds that didn't bloom. The white anoka and the red produced nicely. I grew rose Finn apple last year that never bloomed and produced almost nothing.

Was the hot weather in March a continuous thing or just one or two days? When the average (mean) air temp gets above 65 degrees, it can have an effect on yield.

Yupp Dave, too early to harvest here, however plants are starting to fade, so it's going to be an early (4 weeks) harvest........
