Terracing a hill

carmen_grower_2007(4/5)October 18, 2010

We have lots of flat rocks in a quarry on our property and want to use them to terrace a hill. Does anyone have links to videos or tutorials on terracing? TIA

Pretty simple though. Decide on the sizes of the terraces and build up the perimeter to make the terrace have about a 1% grade across. The steeper the hill the smaller the terraces or taller the walls. Drainage pattern are the most important to minimize erosion. If you build a rock wall with out mortar, limit your walls to 3 feet with a slight batter on both side of the wall. Aloha
