In the spring i'm planing on breeding my hens and i want to know what they will eat?? Can someone help me please!!
Any feed store can give you the proper feed...It's called a chick grower or chick starter or even chick mash. Some are medicated and some are not..your choice.
Yup, chick starter and/or grow mash, medicated with Amprollium or not. Amprollium is a coccistat which medicates against Coccidiosis, a protozoan-borne illness. Both starter and mash are a powdered (or nearly so) food. I generally feed my chicks this until they are about 6-7 weeks old, and then slowly start to mix in regular chicken feed, gradually reducing the amount of baby chick food. At two months old, my youngsters go out into the flock and eat what the adults are eating.
In addition to chick food, I offer my chicks diced (small enough so that they cannot choke on it) table scraps--scrambled eggs, ground beef, spaghetti, grapes, raw corn on the cob, etc. is all good, as are live mealworms. I've got a chicken info site with more here:
Enjoy your chicks! :)
