How cold can an egg get and still be viable? One of my geese has laid eggs and some of them have gotten down to forty degrees before I found them.

Ive hatched many that were that cold. some times, especially from young geese and ganders the earliest eggs will not be fertile and cold is blamed rather than infertility.
