Cochins & Brahmas Temperaments

Natilie70(z8 E Tx)April 1, 2010

I have one "little mom" SL Cochin who is 6 now. She is a very nice chicken. Once every few years, depending on age or some critter getting some chickens I like her to be able to raise 3 or 4 chicks. At her age, I think I need her to raise a buddy for then next group - the other girls are now 3. I am wondering if there is much difference between the cochins and the brahmas ?? I do like a gentle chicken that I can handle and pet from time to time.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

Forgot - standard size chickens is what we have. Sometimes I let them out in the evening - but have to make sure the dogs are kept up.

I think they are pretty well matched as far as temperment, with the Brahmas being the bit more aggressive (for lack of a better word--I don't think either breed could be termed 'aggressive!). I've only kept bantam Cochins, though, so someone else may have better first-hand knowledge.

I'm just now raising my first Giant Cochins (5 weeks old!) and they are just the sweetest things EVER. I love them. :)
