baby chicks

trisha_51(5 Nebraska)April 11, 2013

Our chicks arrived today! 50 of them. So exciting. But I haven't had one-day old chicks since I was grade school age, and that's a long time. What a day for them to arrive - 36 degrees for a high and about 28 tonight. We have two heat lamps for them and they seem happy: eating and drinking and running around. This evening when I checked on them, some were obviously very tired since they were falling asleep at the water. I can't turn off the lamp since it is needed for heat. Are they going to be alright with it being light 24/7?

The light will not bother them at all.

I'm sure you know by now that they'll be fine. I was told to leave the heat lamp on 24/7 to make sure they stay warm enough. Backyardchickens.com seems to be very helpful and much quicker for replies, you might want to check it out!
