lavender stems for chicken bedding?

spogardenMay 7, 2008

I grow lots of lavender and I have o lot of the stems left over from the flowers. I usualy use it for mulch in the garden paths but was wondering if I could use it as bedding for the 2 month old chickens. Do you think that the smell would be too strong for them? I would rather use something I already have instead of going out and buying stuff, if possible.

On another note, this is the second time I have tried to post this question and I find that this web site seems to be infested with spyware that it wants to install on my computer. I rarely do post and this is going to drive me away soon.

Are you sure the site isn't just trying to set a cookie...? I've never had my computer alert me to spyware here.

As for the lavender stems, since the flowers are edible, I think it would be safe for birds, and great way to recycle the stems! Lavender doesn't show up as safe OR toxic on this list:

If anyone knows different please advise.
