Layer pellets for 8-week old pullets?

zootjs(zone 5 MA)June 14, 2009

Hello,

What happens if 8-week old pullets eat layer pellets instead of grower?

It would be much more convenient for me if my whole flock could eat the same feed. I don't care so much about the timing of when the pullets start laying, but of course, I do want them to be healthy. I have 3 youngsters and 8 adults (plus 4 little chicks brooding, but I will of course give them starter/grower for at least a couple more months).

Note that they free range all day long.

layer rations are not suited to young birds, they should be fed a quality starter or grower ration until lay bebins. Having animals was never convenient.
