Chickens and Beer

zootjs(zone 5 MA)July 1, 2009

Slugs are eating my lettuce, so I shared a beer with my garden, and "toasted" the slugs. As they say.

I hope to have a few little dishes overflowing with drunken slugs soon.

It seems like good protein for the chickens, no? But would the beer be bad for them?

Maybe I should dump it in water first to dilute any residual alcohol?

Thoughts?

Do not worry about it. the slug will not have any alcohol. I have a few pounds of slugs this year. never had them like this. I too have wondered if chickens will relish slugs. But I do not waste beer on them. I hand pick them. yes my fingers get all slimy. Yuck I hate that part.

If you want a good plant to attrack slugs so they are easy to catch then try mizuna.

I just do it old school and salt the slugs. :)

Runner ducks will wipe them out . Fun to drink beer and watch the goofy looking ducks run around too.
