HAVE: Interesting Hybrid Brassica

theodosiaunderwoodApril 3, 2013

I Offer These Mainly for Those Who Like to Experiment a Bit

1, One Georgia Collard plant and one Brussel's Sprout (unknown variety) were wintered over and grown together. There were no blooming Brassica oleracea plants (Cabbage, Broccoli, kohlrabi, etc.) anywhere in the area when they bloomed and the honeybees worked them both heavily.
2. Because most members of this family are outcrossers (their own pollen is incompatible), it is highly likely that the seeds produced will be mostly hybrids between the two.
3. Although this kind of cross is much more unlikely, there was also an entire row of blooming turnips (Brassica rapa), also worked by the bees. Rutabagas are thought to be a cross between a member of the cabbage family (Brassica oleracea) and turnip (Brassica rapa).
4. Who knows what you will come up with. Whatever the results, these will produce a plant suitable for greens, if nothing else.

Let me know what you would like to trade.

Your story is so interesting that I looked to see what you were wanting in trade. To my dismay you don't have one.
What a shame to tantalize with an offer and then not have the game.

Almost anything is fine, love2gardennc, especially any unusual edibles.
