Cutting Pasture Weeds

blueberrier1August 15, 2013

We have rotational pastures for our six cows and their calves. This year, the pastures have an abundance of weeds. We are still on a waiting list for lime application.

These pastures were bush hogged two months ago, yet, all has regrown with more vigor. We cannot afford to have this done more often.

Does anyone have experience with towing a self-motored bush hog behind a UTV? We do not have a tractor. Unable to find a bush/brush hog 60" wide.

Advice?

As for the weeds, we brush hog when the seed heads form up, before they are ripe. One thing I have noticed is that except for the Queen Ann's Lace, the weeds seem to change every year....

One thing we do that may help with the cost of fuel is that when cutting the weed seed heads, we can run faster than if you were mowing your lawn.
