pepper problem

I planted peppers yesterday, this morning they were cut at

ground level just laying there.Anyone know what caused this

and how do I correct the problem. Thanks

Cutworms. Wrap each stem in aluminum foil about 3-4 inches from ground level up. Or, put each plant inside a protective tube/collar, such as the cardboard tube from a roll of paper towels, or a disposable cup with the bottom cut out. For wider control, treat your garden area pre-planting with a general granular soil insecticide.

Thanks denninmi,I went to the garden shop for soil insecticide they suggested Sevin dust I was told to lay it down then wet it in. Does that sound right, is there a product someone can recommend if Sevin is not what I should use Thanks

Yes, a non-product. Use collars as was suggested. Cheaper; safer for you and the environment; and effective.
