Sudan grass/sorghum seeds?

hosenemesis(SoCal Sunset 19 USDA 8b)August 16, 2009

Hi y'all,

I don't have a farm, but I have a tiny vegetable garden and two chickens, Blanche and Quasimodo.

I am wondering if any of you buy bulk Sudan grass/Sorghum seed, and if so, would you be willing to send me a tiny packet of seed.

I have root knot nematodes in my veggie beds, and this cover crop is said to knock the wind out of their sails. The problem is I can only find the seeds in ten pound increments. I need like, maybe, forty seeds.

Has anyone else tried this as a cover crop to rid themselves (at least, temporarily) of root knot nematodes?

By the way, the other part of the trick is chicken manure. Don't need any of that...

Any cover crop -wheat-rye--what every will work with the addition of compost--lots of compost. That will increase the helpful organisms (including fungi that feed on these nematodes) in you garden that will reduce the root knot nematodes numbers. The old farmers in the south would put fresh manure on in the late fall to increase the acidity of the soil and effect the life cycle of these nematodes.

Any Âgreen manure cover crop that is tilled under in the spring while green will help.

Thanks, seramas.

Do you have real, live Serama chickens?
I love my Wyandottes.

Yes, about 400. They are kept in small flocks of 50 birds when not individually paired and in breeding cages.
