Nubian horns and debudding

swaplOctober 6, 2009

Some friends of mine found a young Nubian tied to a tree in the woods. They brought her to me because I have 3 wether pygmies. She's about 1-2 months I suspect and still has her horns. They are about the size of hershey's kisses but very sharp. Would it be okay to have her disbudded now or is it too late? I'd like to keep her but my guys have been disbudded and I'm not sure if that's the best thing to do. thanks for any advice you can give!

Best to have had it done in the first week or so of life, but you didn't have her then; check with your veterinarian they might still be able to do it - but make certain that they're experienced with dehorning/dibudding goats - it's not quite the same undertaking as with dehorning calves - the brain is much less protected than is the case with calved.
