wheat hay seeds planting

Does anyone know the seed beards from wheat hay, how long it takes go germinate a seed? I have some in a paper towel in a plastic bag on the stove to see if they are viable and will sprout. Has anyone planted the beards from a bale to start growing in the field? Do know if it takes a lot of water to grow?

If it is from wheat hay (immature, greenish) rather than wheat straw (mature plants, golden yellow), the heads shouldn't have been mature enough to be viable. Check the seeds out--are they plump and round or thin and flattish? Plump and round is good.

The seeds should germinate within a week to 10 days. Keep them moist but not wet, such as on a damp paper towel in a ziplock bag. Also, wheat is normally planted in cooler soils to grow, so it may be too warm to get good germination on your stove. Place them in a cool place up to 65 degrees, preferably lower, and see what happens.
