tulips

I got them from Colorblends. The mix is called "cool out". They were breathtaking until we had days and days of rain. Peony tulips and rain don't work but they were totally worth it for the week they were in the sun.

Yes, growing Peony Tulips is worth it to get something so early that resembles a Peony. Too bad they are a yearly purchase, as they never look as good as that first year. I grew them when I lived in Randolph, MA (just south of Boston). Where are you located? Your page does not mention your location aside from just MA. I gave up growing Peony Tulips and have replaced them with pink Peony Poppies, which bloom now for me here in NC z7. I winter sow those and they reseed well. I did an experiment to see if I could transplant one, and it worked! Never hurts to try anything and everything in the garden.

I am in Arlington. I hate to admit it but after they bloom I just dig them all out and toss them on the compost heap. I buy more every year. Why risk having a lame show in the spring and why bother looking at their dying foliage for a month. Fortunately my actual Peonys have not started to bloom so they were not affected by the monsoon. I have an attraction to flowers that are sensitive to the weather or only last a day or two. My attempts at wsing and transplating poppies has not been great. I direct sow now. I havn't grown any Peony Poppies but will try them next year. Thanks for the inspiration. I agree with your last statement. I read alot about gardening but I prefer to learn the rules the hard way.
