16 foot flowers...

joanmnAugust 12, 2006

years ago I got this free from an online nursery, called a "pink". I got 2, one died, and this one is about 16 feet tall. I get LOTS of comments on it, and the bees love it. Does anyone know what it's real name is?

I can't help with what it is Joan, but, obviously the "problem" with sixteen foot tall "flowers" is picken'um!

Unusual tree. Thanks for sharing.

I found out it's a saltcedar or Tamarisk. Whatever it is, I like it!

Wow!!! Mine is about 3 feet tall and has been that way for years now. It never blossoms either. I think I have to protect it more in the winter, but I see you are from Minnesota.....and ZONE 3. Maybe a different variety.
Enjoy

It gives me the willies to know that nurseries are allowed to sell certain known invasive plant species. It may not be a primary problem in your state yet, but it is being observed.

Here is a link that might be useful: Tamerisk information

I read the link article. Now I know why my grandmother always said nothing would grow under athel trees, aka salt cedar. Too much salt. The have lots of them in the Rio Grande valley of south Texas where I grew up.
