'Night-blooming cereus'

hlbrand(z5 CO)August 23, 2005

About 20 years ago my father-in-law gave me a "night-blooming cereus" that had been in the family for many, many years. I believe that it is really the epiphyllum oxypetalum. It hadn't bloomed for about 12 years, but it did last night! I was so excited and took lots of pictures. I just had to share. Here are just a couple. The size of the blossom is about 8 inches across.

Ahhh, CONGRATS to you! Just beautiful! I've read the coolness and dryness it is kept in winter determines the blooms... don't know if that's true, but hooray for you! Sure wish they lasted longer.
