The cardinals

carol23_gwAugust 8, 2005

I've been keeping track of Mrs. Cardinal and her nest which is in a Buddleia seedling that arose under the eave of the porch. July 28th I saw three eggs in the nest and it wasn't until today that they hatched. That was a long time in the heat where temps came close to 100 and the poor cardinal sat with her beak open.

The newly-hatched babies are quite ugly at this point.

Neat pix, Carol! Oh, those poor birdies in that heat! Yep, they do look ugly at this point. Good thing they'll "pretty up"! :)

Oh Carol, lucky you. I love baby birdies, such a wonder of nature. It is so hard to watch them struggle with the heat that's for sure. I'm so glad they made it.
