ground cover for scarred backyard?

cannonOctober 12, 2007

I have recently lost 36 trees in lower section of my backyard due to "beavers". The area (aprox. 35ft x 75ft)is now an eyesore & I would like to plant some type of groundcover to soften it. Any recommendations for Central Arkansas? I would prefer something that is fast-growing & does not get too tall...I'm concerned about it becoming a snake haven. The area slopes at about a 45 degree angle going down to a creek & has poor, rocky soil. I know very little about plants so will be very grateful for suggestions.

Please contact your local ext office for some help. Also consider wildflowers seeds. So Sorry to hear of your loss.I lost about 10 laurel oaks to Hypoxylon Oak caker. Am planting natives like crazy. The Division of forestry in your area may be of some help also.Good luck!
