Oddity on Tx Mountain Laurel

I have grown Mtn Laurels for many years and have never seen this odd growth before. This tree has 6 of these.. anyone know what it is and the cause?

It looks like fasciation. If it's on six different plants, it's probably caused by a weed killer spray drifting on your laurels.
