I love the movie Moonstruck. In fact, I love it so much that I turn to it for solace and guidance in times of need.
I'm serious! :)
The dialogue is amazing, and addresses anything that may be going on in your life at any given moment. It's like some kind of "magic" movie.
I once told a friend of mine about the magical powers of Moonstruck, and she was skeptical... UNTIL she happened to catch it on tv one night when she was feeling particularly blue about a failed romance. And wouldn't you know, Moonstruck gave her the guidance she needed - it was that scene where Nicolas Cage says something like, "Love ain't perfect, Loretta. The stars are perfect. The snowflakes are perfect. Not us. Not us."
I used a bit of Moonstruck wisdom myself recently - I was feeling overworked and overwrought, and was thinking of bailing out of a conference I'd committed to. But as I was outside having a smoke in the wintry Canadian cold, a line from Moonstruck came to me: "You got a hat? Use your hat." I was reminded that sometimes you just have to stop being so dramatic, and get down to pragmatic business. If there's lots of sun, you wear a hat. And if you have a conference presentation coming up, you get off your duff and write the darn thing instead of sitting around thinking about how overworked you are. It's all the power of Moonstruck.
So, do you guys have any magic movies, ones that seem to contain all the wisdom you'll ever need in your lifetime?
