Pepper identification

MelissaHess(5)July 2, 2012

I've been looking online for a chart that identifies peppers. I bought 2 plants and planted then and can't remember what type of pepper they are. I need a picture chart to identify. One is a short pointy pepper that grows up from the plant...starts green and turns red...maybe 3 inches long max. The other is a longer pepper (4-5 in) that grows down from the plant and is a green, lighter not like a regular green pepper, and has ridges going vertical down it. Will try to post pics later, but thought I would see if anyone had a chart or source for me to see a photo. Thanks!!!

Also, another question...if I pick the pepper before it turns red, will it be less spicy and still tasty? Thanks!

You might try asking on the Chili pepper forum.

The 1st one you describe could be a thai pepper, but I'm not sure about the other.

2nd one made me think of a Cubanelle. I'm no expert in gardening, but I do a lot of cooking.

1st one sounds like an ornamental or a tobasco-type pepper.

2nd one sounds like a cubanelle (if blunted ended) or an anaheim-type pepper (if more pointed-ended).
