Bibb lettuce leaves turning reddish-purple

mike79njJuly 12, 2014

I'm not sure if this is normal but several of my bibb lettuce plants are turning red/purple in the inner leaves. What might be wrong? I have salad bowl lettuce growing in the next row and they are fine.

Perhaps heat stress?
If so, rig temporary shade.

I could understand the heat stress, they have been in a hot sun here and I got a late start planting them. I'll try that thanks. I'll follow up to let everyone know what happens.

It is because of the sun but not heat stress. Some varieties do that, just like some leaf lettuce sold in store.
