How big to pick white eggplants?

frdnicholas(Albuquerque NM)August 8, 2009

I am growing the white, egg-shaped eggplants for the first time. Someone had heard you actually pick them when they're about the size of an egg. I am so used to Black Beauty's that that seems so small. Is that actually the best size to pick them?

Like thier purple brethren, white egg plant comes in different sizes and shapes. So size really depends on the cultivar you planted. Regardless pick them before they lose thier gloss. The little ones called Easter Egg,max out at about egg size. Cloud Nine is one of the better whites and maxes out at about seven inches, but as iam3killerbs stated above are good anytime before that.

I was going to grow the small ones this year, just never got them started ( Martha Stewert seeds I picked up). And the packet said to harvest at egg size. I did wonder how you would these small types?
