What to plant in August?

albartsch(z6 MA)August 1, 2008

I'm cleaning up my garden and have some extra space. Can anyone suggest something to plant midsummer? Should I wait a couple weeks and do lettuce?

i just planted again here in michigan. i planted burpee's green ice lettuce, sweet musclum lettuce, spicey musclum lettuce mix, raddish, french green beans, beets, carrots, and green onions. if you like leaf lettuce you have to try the burpee green ice. i planted it four times this year and have had a salad every day this summer. we just fisished the first planting a week ago. i plan on planting a fourth 150 foot row of strawberries next weekend form the runners i put in 4 inch pots a month ago. good luck, winter is on the way. I just planted spinach, kale and, my favorite, ornamental cabbage. It's so neat to see ice hanging from bright, ruffled leaves in mid winter.

This has been a hot topic here for the last week or two. You might want to scroll through the pages 1-4 and take a look. Here's a link to one of the threads.

Here is a link that might be useful: What can I plant now?
