Can someone identify this plant

stevem1123May 4, 2012

I have a tropical flowering plant that is 14 years old. It has not been producing flowers for the last 6-7 years and the leaves started looking sickly, so in the winter I pruned it and it has indeed produced new growths. The other problem is that there are strange bumpy things on the leaves which are not insects and DO rub off, but after time they come back. My questions are, if I send you an image of the plant would you be able to identify it? and would you be able to tell me how to get rid of the things on the leaves.

The things on the leaves are scale (most likely). The usual treatment is light/perfect/summer/all-season (any one of these) horticultural oil. It's very effective at controlling scale, which has to be smothered or treated with a systemic, smothering being by far the least noxious and logical IPM choice. Mechanical removal and dabbing with alcohol ..... are very ineffective, as are most other home remedies.

For plant ID, may I suggest you look up Dori (Rhizo) or Toni (Hopefulauthor). Both are regulars and good at identifying most houseplants ..... or post a picture. That I suggested those 2 doesn't mean others aren't also skilled, they're just the 2 regulars that came to mind as likely to be able to help.

Pls post the pic, a number of people could likely ID it from that.

As to the pest a close up pic of that too MAY get that IDed as well, or confirm what Al (Tapla) has suggested above.
