Identification help?

Talyah_88June 16, 2013

Hi everyone!

What a wonderful forum with great topics. I've joined because I need some emergency help. We've got a bunch of nieces and nephews coming in next week who are highly allergic to many things and will take a bite out of anything they can crawl fast enough to reach.

We'd like to put lables on our houseplants just in case an emergency comes up. Can any of you identify any of these plants?

Thanks so much!

Not sure what #1 is but I like it. #2 is some kinda christmas cactus. #3 is a coleus. #4 is a pelargonium. #5 might be an epipremnum but regardless it is an aroid which is not a plant you want tots chewing on. #6appears to be some kind of dracena. #7 is definately an epipremnum(see#5above). #8 is a peace lilly which is another aroid.

Hope this helps! :)

That is so helpful, thank you so much! That just leaves number one... the stem isn't actually stiff on it, it's being held up by a ssupport stick. I'm going to go label them right now! Thank you!

No problem! :)

I've got some hunches on #1 but I don't want to blurt mere guesswork, besides there must be someone here better qualified to that task lurking about who should pop up soon. :)

Oh and another thing,..labeling them is fine but also if I mat suggest looking them up individually online and doing a bit of research to determine their hazard potential in order to build your own knowledge base. ;)

number one to me looks like a sunflower lol. which means i have no clue what it could be nor do i have any hunches.

2. christmas cactus
3. coleus
4. geranium
5. pothos / devils ivy
6.draceana sanderiana
7. pothos
8. peace lily

as far as i know none of these plants would cause much problem if ingested. May upset a stomach but definitely nothing toxic enough to cause serious ailment.

You guys, thanks so much. I've bookmarked that link. I guess number 1 is a little harder to identify.
