Repotting - does humidity matter?

rina_June 10, 2012

I am wondering if high humidex would cause a problem when repotting...

Being 'first time bare-rooter', I am sure it will take me considerably longer. Humidex for today is 36deg.C - approx. 97F. There is also high level of smog.

I am eager to start but my inexperience will probably stress the tree a lot-don't want to increase chance of killing it.

Anybody experienced: is it OK to start "The Job"?

Thnx.

Humidity is your friend. Keep the roots wet or at least moist during the entire process. The most important roots - the very finest, die in minutes without moist surroundings. I work in shade, out of wind, with a tub of water and a spritzer handy.

Thanks Al;

so I am ready (got home early!!!)

I am going to start by taking ficus out of the pot, and washing off all of the soil. I am sure it will take a while...
Have big bucket ready, set up in shade. No wind today...Hose & spritzer ready.
This tree is heavy - used 2-wheeler to get to backyard...
Will mail you pics when finished.

Thank you.

(BTW, I sent maail to your private addy late last night).

No email from you in inbox or junk file. My Windows Live mail provider takes the liberty of sending more than half of the mail I get from GW to the junk file for some unknown reason, so I'm in the habit of regularly ckng there too, but no dice. ;-(
