Is there a brand of humidifier that is best?? I always worry about bacteria colonizing humidifiers in general. Any suggestions??
I don't have a specific recommendation, but the evaporative kind of humidifier is the least likely to spray germs into the air. These are simple contraptions with a tank and a fan and possibly a wick. Some of these you can even use regular tap water with because it doesn't have any delicate small parts to damage with buildup, although you will still have to clean up the buildup inside the tank occasionally, and replace the wick if it has one. For the germ cautious avoid the nebulizing humidifiers which use ultrasound to break the water into tiny particles and spray it into the air.
Actually, this Wikipedia article is a good overview of the different types of humidifiers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humidifier

I have bought Air-O-Swiss AOS 7133 Ultrasonic Humidifier!
Expensive but really the best humidifier!
Here is a link that might be useful: best humidifier
So that was a leading/rhetorical question then, huh?
When I was shopping around for a humidifier, I went with Amazon reviews, like I often do for the stuff I consider buying. Honeywell HCM-350 seemed to fit the bill. I am not a germaphobe, but there is a UV lamp in there to kill germs. I have nothing to compare it to though.
