Yellow leaves with black spots....

muddeprivedNovember 13, 2013

I'm not sure of the name of this plant. My sis calls it a marijuana plant since it looks like one LOL. It's been doing great the past year until recently after bringing it back in for the winter season. The lower leaves closest to the soil are starting to become spotty and yellow. The top half of the plant is doing fine. I've upgraded it into a bigger pot and fresh soil about six months ago. It does sit next to a heater but it only blows warm air.

Is there something wrong with the plant?

Full plant with bad leaves trimmed. You can still see the spotty leaves at the bottom....

muddeprived,
First, you have a Pachira aquatica. Some call it a "Money Tree" (not a cultivar name, just a name, haha). "Yellow leaves with black spots" almost sounds like something fungal IMO. I wish I could be of more help than that, but I'm not the most familiar with the types of fungal diseases plants can get, let alone how to treat them. I hope this at least points you in the right direction.

Looks decent in the 2nd pic. I'm sorry this is driving you to drink.

Will the attached water reservoir snap off of the pot, or is it all one piece?

"It does sit next to a heater but it only blows warm air." Plants don't like this as much as people, not really at all. Is it possible to rearrange a bit?

LOL, I like to drink when fiddling with my plants. :) Old habit........

I was thinking fungus as well. I did end up going back at it and cutting off all the affected leaves.

I think the pot's reservoir is one piece. Why do you ask?

I will try to get the plants away from the heater. It's tough cuz my heater is directly below the big window in the living room and it's the only window that gets sunshine.
