Poanna Grass/Annual Bluegrass.. Help!

cwideneMarch 25, 2012

Last year I killed off all of my yard with round up, put in sprinklers and replanted my whole yard with Tall Fescue with a slit-seeder. Looks great!

However this spring I have a small area of Poanna Grass (about 5 sq feet) near my driveway. I put down a pre-emergent in Spring but want to know what to do about this grass so it will not spread further. Any insights on how to handle?

Poa is an annual and will die in the summer. If you don't want to wait, you can spray it with roundup and reseed. For such a small area, I would probably kill it now and patch.

Poa germinates in the fall, so it is just something that comes along with fall seeding. You can use a preemergent this fall so that it doesn't return next year. You probably will want to buy a bag now and store it because the box stores often only carry it in spring.
