any advice for new cupressus "Goldcrest"

rosebuddy(z5Ont)November 5, 2012

Just brought home a cupressus gold crest from the nursery and can't find it in any of my houseplant books. Not a good sign i'm thinking but it was sold as a houseplant. Anyone out there ever kept this plant with any success?

I'd say you'll have a battle, but you can probably pull it off if you have supplemental light and can keep the humidity north of 45-50%. I keep Cupressus pygmaea, a close cousin, indoors after a good chilling before I bring it in. Another good friend of mine also grows this plant indoors under lights. Do a search for Jack Wikle under lights and you'll come up with a lot of direction that will save me the effort ...... and provide more info than you asked for. I also have a friend who owns a bonsai nursery/greenhouse op in S MI, and he keeps it over winter in the greenhouse. It's doable if you get things right, but it's not your conventional houseplant, by any stretch ....
