Zoysia Plugs in a bermuda lawn

moegertyMarch 30, 2013

So which one wins? I am interested in switching to Zoysia, but do not want to go through the whole process of removing and starting over

Is plugging a viable option? Or am I just being hopeful?

Also, which is the best type of Zoysia for north Dallas?

Sorry but it is just not going to work. Zoysia and Bermuda growth habits are similar except Bermuda is much more aggressive.

Correct, bermuda wins. I tried that. Bemuda definitely wins. While the zoysia I used is fairly aggressive, it cannot compete with bermuda in dry conditions. Zoysia is subject to problems that make it go dormant for up to 12 months. When that happens, it is wide open territory for the bermuda to move in.

Zoysia probably would do well in partial sun condition and a lot less fertilizer. At least that's what I've observed at my mom's. Only if I could find Palisades cultivar to do experiment.. Just a few pieces is all I want.
