Weed Killer

gregnga(7)April 23, 2014

Up until this year I have been using a lawn service to fertilize my yard and get rid of the weeds. I have decided to try it myself this year. I have sprayed my yard with Weed-B-Gone but yet I still have weeds. WBG killed some of the weeds but not all of the weeds. I figure the landscape companies must use something that is not available to the public. As much as I hate to admit it my yard looked better when I was letting a lawn care company take care of it.

I would like some recommendations for getting rid of weeds.

You can do this but it you might be doing it wrong. You have to know what grass you have so you don't damage that. Sometimes climate and soils make a difference so you have to know where you live. And you have to know what kind of weeds you have. Some weed killers have absolutely no effect on some weeds. Also it helps to know why you have weeds, because if you're doing things right, you shouldn't have weeds.

Where do you live?
What kind of grass do you have?
What kinds of weeds do you want to kill?
How often do you water and for how long?
How high/low do you mow and how often?
When were the last two times you fertilized?

I have the same question as above.

I live in north GA.

I have cool weather fescue.

I want to kill oxalis and clover (and some dandelion, but I can pull those if I have to)

I water once a week for about an hour--but right now it's raining more than that.

I mow at 3 inches and take about 1 off, and right now I'm mowing 3 times every 2-3 weeks or so (just a little more frequently than once a week), but I'll back off in summer.

I fertilized in February and did weed and feed this week.

I also overseeded in Sept.

So what should I be doing for the weeds? I would appreciate any help so, so much!
