Philodendrons

tifflj(6 Pitts, PA)December 12, 2012

I have a cutting from a philo that has a thick vine and big hearty leaves and a cutting from a philo that has a skinny vine and little leaves. Whats the difference? Will the little one get thicker?

As you can see I potted them together to save space.

If they are the same thing, then yes, the little one will (assuming cultural requirements are met) get bigger, in leaf size and vine girth. If you're comparing 2 diff Philos... hard to say, there are over 900 different Philos, not all of them are vines.

This juncture is a single vine that has grown to the end of the branch and is now headed back toward the pot. The red arrow is pointing to the part coming out of the pot and heading up. The purple arrow is much farther down the vine and has increased in size noticeably at that point.

Going up the other branch is a vine with leaves this size close to where it emerges from the pot/roots.

Where it has gotten bigger toward the tip, the last few leaves are this size.

Not your fault the preview erases pics.

Looks like the same thing, should get bigger. I still don't know if heart-leaf Philo has a different form for mature leaves... or what the upper range of possible size would be. About 9" is the biggest leaf any of my vines has grown.
