How to fill holes and firm up lawn for wedding

baileyandbella(5)April 22, 2012

Hi

My son is having his wedding reception at his friend's home (backyard). We went to see it and there is a lot of work to be done. We have 3 months.

There is a gopher, (that is a whole nother problem), and therefore a lot of soft loose soil up on the grass. There are also a lot of old gopher holes. The yard looks like swiss cheese and my husband is concerned about the tables, chairs and the guests.

Should we use the same dirt that has been dug up to fill in the holes? I am concerned the holes won't fill since they are tunnels.

Any other advice for filling in the holes and firming the soft soil would be appreciated. Thanks!

Where does his friend live and what kind of grass are you dealing with?

Hi.

It's in Southern California. I am not sure of the grass, maybe an old Fescue sod.

Here are 3 pictures, you may need to copy and paste them into your browser.
