What is this?

So, I just bought my house last fall and am trying to repair what was done to my lawn. There's an area, about 20' x 10' where my grass has remained brown and hasn't started coming back. The rest of the grass is doing well around this particular area.

I took a closer look today and noticed this weed/grass was present. It is growing horizontally along the ground in an almost net like pattern. Wherever I found this, the grass was dead.

Does anyone know what this is and how to manage it?

Thanks in advance.

Can you take a picture of the weed in the ground? Are there flowers or seed heads?

It's hard to see in the areas that are still covered by the dead grass. Here's a picture in a small area I raked:

There are definitely no flowers. I don't see any seeds, but that's probably because I don't know what I'm looking at.
