Ferris mower question

ksk0011January 20, 2010

I have a Ferris IS3000Z Zero Turn Mower. I am trying to replace the mower spindle assembly an am having trouble removing the spindle pulley wheel from the spindle shaft. Does anyone know how to remove this part? There is a "key" (1/4" x 1 1/4" part) that "locks" the pulley wheel to the shaft so they rotate together. I don't see any way to remove this "key".

Please help as there are no Ferris dealers anywhere near me.

If there is a nut holding the pulley onto the shaft, remove the nut. If no nut, then it might be a pressed fit, along with the key. Also, inspect it carefully for a lock screw or bolt. If it is a pressed fit, then a puller will be needed. i'd take it to a dealer and ask them to remove the pulley. I am not readily knowlegable about that particular brand, just giving some suggestions. If you remove the blade and back-up parts, can the shaft be removed out the top of the housing?
