Power Reel mower in Northern Midwest States?

RichardglundMarch 31, 2014

How well do these work in the far north? I keep seeing references to southern-type grasses, but wonder about the cut on ryegrass/fescue/Kentucky blue mix grasses?

I'm looking at a 20" Tru Cut for my 1/2 lawn. It is not flat, but the slopes are fairly gentle. The lawn is brand new, and I have an automatic sprinkler system. When the snow melts in a couple of weeks, I might start seeing evidence of green!

Thanks for any help offered.

I have a 17in McLane that I want to sell at a excellent price..
I have the roller installed. The roller allows it to stripe. It also gives blade protection.

Reel mowers are typically used to cut at 1" or less where southern turf does best. Northern grasses are usually cut at 3" or better. The Tru-Cut max is 2.25. See the dilemma?
