Help with lawn repair

NorcoMay 5, 2014

Basically I need advice repairing my lawn have tried seeding (grew in too thick and killed the new grass and the surrounding grass off.) Also as you can see in the picture I have tried patch master (recycled mulch, premium seed, fertilizer) about a week ago (doesn't seem to be doing anything other than looking terrible.)

The rest of the lawn besides these spots of dead grass / bare spots is very beautiful and my neighbors lawns are outstanding I could really use someone's help in resolving this issue. Thank you in advance for taking time to read this post.

Location: Waxhaw, NC

Today's High: 85ðF (All Day)
Today's Low: 61ð (After Dark - Night)
Humidity: 45%

Why do you think the grass died there? Usually bare spots can be explained by standing water, too little water, or shade. I have seen mystery spots that, it turns out, were caused by parking a car such that the exhaust blowing out cooked the grass. Another possibility is a chemical or fertilizer spill. I'm thinking that whatever killed the grass there in the first place is preventing the new grass from establishing.

How are you watering the Patch Master?
