I have a 12 yr old toro wheelhorse riding mower that has gotten so slow my 80 yr old mom can walk beside me while I mow. Any clues at to what could be wrong??? THanks for all your help!
Not enough info.
Hydrostatic or belt-driven Peerless transaxle?
In the latter case, the belt could be stretched beyond usability.
it is Hydrostatic..
"my 80 yr old mom can walk beside me while I mow. Any clues at to what could be wrong???" Well, your mom should be the one on the seat if she's 80 y/o...
If the belt is good, and the brake isn't dragging- I'd say the hydro is getting tired. If this is an HXL, they aren't meant to be serviced- but you can try removing the transaxle and doing an oil change and it may help things along. You can even download a service manual at toro.com
When the hydro on my Wheelhorse went bad, it would no longer pull hills, but went fine on flats.
I got an extra two years out of it by changing the oil from the original 20W to 90W
