Lawn Mower low RPM's

mthomas_2008April 16, 2008

I have a Craftsman 550 series model # 917375610 Today while cutting the grass I was cutting in around a large bush and the lawn mower lost RPMs. Prior to cutting under this bush the lawnmower was operating fine, matter of fact. I just had the lawn mower serviced recently. I am not sure if I caught something on bush or what. I examined the engine to see if I changed something it is hard to tell.

Sounds like you bent the tab that holds the spring. Remove the air cleaner and bend the spring tab toward the front of the mower (putting more tension on the spring) until the engine is running around 3200 RPMs. If you don't have access to a tachometer, it might be better to take it to a local shop and let them set it for you.
Too slow and you lose power, too fast and there are safety issues and shorter life for the engine.
