Honda HR214

macwordApril 22, 2010

My Honda HR214 has suddenly become hard to start. It's not a carb type issue.

It's almost like something is binding when you try to pull start. It's very tough to pull, and seems to be running a little different.

Great mower, but this just started. Any thoughts?

I picked up an HR215 on the cheap with similar symptoms. The bbc was plugged with grass. You will need to remove the blade and center bolt to clean it out. While you have it apart, check the bearing in the disc. If it is at all rough replace it.
If I remember correctly it is an SKF6202 available at most bearing houses for a third of what Honda wants.

Hello did you replace the blade and install the new one upside down?
