Mower wheels

donb1183April 11, 2012

I have a 1990s John Deere 14pz push mower. It runs like a top. I have pushed so much over the last 20 years that the tires are almost bald. Does it make any sense to replace them or is it just aesthetics?

I'd go with the chrome wheel package! One assumes that it pushes fine provided the wheels aren't too wobbly. Drive wheels w/o tread are certainly a pain if one is traversing sloped areas.

There's a couple of videos on youtube where the guy makes "tires" from old bicycle tires....cuts them to size and glues them on. One of them does what looks to be a good job; although it would be hard to imagine it lasting very long.

Not much to lose I guess.
