Painting ceramic tiles

rosieo(7 NC)September 27, 2011

What kind of glass paint will hold up to being grouted in?

I want to paint some ceramic tiles and I need a paint that'll be tough enough to survive the tilesetters grouting them in place without the paint flaking or peeling off.

Thanks!

I can't help with this but you may want to try the Mosaic forum on this Garden Web...link below. Good luck!

Can you paint them after they are set and grouted? That would cut out the abrasion and surface trauma.

Just a thought.

Would it be possible to cover the tiles with something during the grouting process? I have used plaid enamel paint and it is very durable (dishwasher safe) on ceramic. You could forego the baking of the tile and let it cure for a month instead. That way you could paint the tiles after they are grouted. I might do a test tile to see what the durability is after curing, but I think it will be very durable.
