John Deere LT100 series not firing up

Otto2014June 18, 2014

Hello!

I have a JD LT110 that died while running. It is only about 3 years old. This is what I noticed: there is current to the spark plug (tested with ground). I can rotate the wheel by hand but occasionally is hard and I hear a "puff" coming from the motor when I force it, then is easy again for a turn or so. When I turn the key, the motor spins until the battery dies but doesn't fire up at all. I checked and there is gas coming into the carburetor. I replaced the fuel filter and the spark plug and nothing. Short of taking apart the carburetor I am out of options. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

well, your "spark test" leaves a lot to wonder about.
A spark plug grounded against the block can show a spark, but not so when under engine compression.

Does the carburetor fuel solenoid click ON/OFF as you turn the key switch ON/OFF?

IF you prime the carb with a couple teaspoons worth of gas, does it try to fire?
