Painting Plastic Bottles

creynoldsOctober 5, 2010

I am trying to figure out how or what paint to use to paint on plastic that will stick and with stand weather conditions. I have tried everything. I don't want to use spray paint unless it is just for a base. Can someone please help me. I have tried acrylic paint, glass paint, enamels, model paint, fabric paint, and I have tried sanding first. Also do I need a sealer if so what kind ? Help please !!!

You can use any kind of paint. Just rough up the surface firt with either sand paper or sometimes you can just use those small wire brushes that the dollar stores carry. They look like toothbrushes with metal bristles. Then after you paint you will have to seal it. I use spray exterior clear sealer.

I have found that any paint peels eventually ...left out in the changing weather seasons! But, spray exterior clear sealers have helped me (like lizzardly said). I think lindasewandsew has good success on pots & such...I'll try to find a link. Might give it a try. Jeanne S.

There is a "Patio Paint" that is more weather resistant than standard craft paint. It will wear off, but seems to take a little longer than other paints.

Love that pot jeannespines.

rockoak...yes, lindasewandsew, does terrific painting on lots of recycled stuff for her gardens...I LOVE her work!

And, I use patio paints on cement, too ...for outside ...on my whimsical face rocks...lasted pretty good for a couple yrs outside year round. Jeanne S.

Krylon makes a great spray paint for plastic and it comes in many colors. Walmart carries it.
