Help with bare spots in centipede lawn

DerekLittJuly 28, 2014

First time poster here. We just moved into a house with a centipede lawn, and there are a few bare spots. This area does receive morning sunlight but has dappled shade most of the late morning and afternoon. However, there is centipede growing well in this same area, so I'm hoping I can get the grass to fill in. What should I do with these bare spots? Top dress with sand and keep watered? Sprig or plug?

Thanks in advance!

It could be a disease. Please post another picture showing the grass at the margin where it is both brown and green. Here's a sample showing how close you need to get.

We're looking for spots like those on the grass in the picture.

Generally centipede needs to be fertilized lightly once every 2 years. It should be mowed at your mower's lowest setting and watered about once every week or two.
